IN GIRUM IMUS NOCTE, ECCE, ET CONSUMIMUR IGNI
This is an old latin palindrome, of uncertain origin. Some attribute it to Virgil but there is no definitive proof of this; others argue it is perhaps of a much later author, from early medieval times. Somehow, I was always attracted to this particular palindrome, much like the moths it seems to describe. Flying around helplessly in obscurity, they are attracted to the fire and ultimately consumed by it. I had also read that the subject of the palindrome was ambiguous, in so that some believe it could be referring to prostitutes.
Again, for this image I have used the palindrome as the only prompt, to see what AI would make of it. Indeed, the atmosphere is remarkably solemn: it looks like the scene is taking place in a mass or ritualistic assembly. Our point of view is the one of somebody just entering the congregation (are we part of it as well?) and it looks like the rite is going to start soon.
